Tree pruning 101

This is a great time of year to prune your dormant trees.

These type of branches are called shooters ( at least thats what I call them )

You don't want these because they will grow straight up into a spot that is already taken.

If they are under 1/2" diameter clip them at the neck with pruners. If
they are more the 1/2" use a hand saw.

Does this look like a new tree? This is called a sucker.
It has grown out of a root about 3 ft from the actual tree. I hate them!
I still haven't figured out how to prevent them. If you have any tips please tell me.
If I find out anything I will let you know.

Here I am sawing it off at the base.

This branch was bigger than 1/2" so I am sawing it off. It was sticking out low over
our front side walk so it had to go.
